Priorities

The UN asked 10 million people their top priorities
Top: education, jobs, health, nutrition
Bottom: climate change

How do we take power?

How do we take power from the ultra-rich and create a system defended against self-dealing in government and the rise of robber barons? If you figure that out you solve pretty much everything, including climate change.

Education / economics

@ClimateHuman In order to end the hegemony of Big Money in politics, we must end the hegemony of mainstream (neoclassical, neoliberal) economics in politics, education and media.
Mainstream #economics is an ideology of business & money in the cloak of objective social science.

Carbon zero sum

@ClimateHuman it probably starts with making billionaires illegal

Logos

@ClimateHuman We could start by reversing Citizens United. Then we could set term limits on members of Congress. We could also insist on a more diverse representation on corporate boards. And lastly, insist out politicians wear logos like NASCAR drivers. So we know exactly who funds them.

Absolutely ridiculous

@ClimateHuman In Britain I would throw the House of Lords out and replace it with a people's assembly created through a lottery every few years to oversee parliament and also suggest things it would like parliament to discuss They would be helped to understand legalitys by the civil service
Tax

@ClimateHuman We did. Democracy. But the billionaires have been fighting against it for 70 years. All downhill from there.
I'm guessing 1 rich person in 100 is a decent human being who cares about others.

Yes, but
Yes, but 2

@ClimateHuman Now we are asking the right questions! To start, anyone with the privilege and awareness to do so should buy as much as possible from local farmers, businesses and second hand, because we need to strengthen local systems again and bring some power back into communities.
Refuse trees

@ClimateHuman Refuse Reduce Reuse & Recycle once 99% start doing that on everything 1% will shrink too & climate will get better too.
Catch 22

@ClimateHuman This very problem has been solved for more than 150 years. The solution is described in "Das Kapital." It has been applied successfully in a number of countries all over the world. There's a catch, though: the result was consistently the same.
Legal fictions

@ClimateHuman IMHO this podcast points the ways. We need the adversarial tools of capitalism turned against climate-related risk, via elimination of limited liability and/or requiring insurance or otherwise changing corporate & professional risk profiles:

Fix democracy

@ClimateHuman start by fixing education so that people understand democracy and their role in it. then, start to fix democracy by raising taxes on the super-rich. voters are responsible for everything that happens in the country, and anything is possible with the power of the vote.
Revolution!

@ClimateHuman We need a revolution that turns society on its head and gives power to the billions not the billionaires. A revolution that reorganises production to the needs of people and planet, not profit.
Money
Unions

@ClimateHuman Through organised collective actions which halt production. We need organise workers and take escalatory strike actions, use boycotting, use physical direct interruption of fossil fuel service delivery, etc.
Uh?

@ClimateHuman A system of complete vertical governance.
If we create any seats of power, the competitive minded, power-needing people among us will seek it out and over time turn it into ever more power. It happens every time.
Yep

@ClimateHuman @AIINazis I highly recommend, before taking power form someone, first take power over yourself. If you do that, we can pretty much everything, including climate change

Carbon

3 factual errors that stubbornly refuse to go away:
1. ‘Carbon’. NO. It’s CO2. Calling it ‘carbon’ is like calling H2O as ‘oxygen’.
2. ‘Price’. NO. There’s no market mechanism at work.
3. ‘Rebate’. NO. It costs people a lot more in carbon tax than what they get back.

Have you ever wondered how forests come into being? How do trees come together to form an ecosystem that becomes a home for so many living organisms?
@afforestt is an enterprise that has decided to bring back our lost forests by creating them.
